The Cadet Training Program

Do you want to prepare for a career as a firefighter? Do you want to experience something unique?

Then join the Brussels Cadet School!

In collaboration with the Training Center of the Brussels Fire Brigade (OCBB) and the Red Cross Brussels, we train you to become a firefighter through various modules: civic duty and citizenship, emergency assistance, firefighting, physical preparation...

Successfully completing the training leads to the Federal Competency Certificate (FCC), which is essential to apply for positions in emergency zones [link to brandweer.be]. You will also earn a Rescuer Certificate and the European First Aid Certificate (EFAC).

When

The training is organized in a 2.5-year cycle. It starts in January and mainly takes place at the headquarters of the Brussels Fire Brigade (Helihavenlaan 11, 1000 Brussels).

The lessons are mostly held during the school year:
  • Saturdays from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM for the cadet-firefighter training,
  • Wednesday afternoons from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM for physical preparation.

During exam periods, lessons are suspended to give you the opportunity to prepare for and take your regular school exams.

Participation Requirements

The training is open to everyone. There are only two admission requirements:
  • Be 16 or 17 years old during the training year;
  • Be a Belgian citizen or from a state that is part of the European Economic Area or Switzerland.
